I spend most of my time at home because I work from home and do school online. Because of this, I haven’t really had to wear a mask unless someone stopped by or we leave the house. School started this week, so that means I will have to get used to wearing my masks for longer periods at a time. Just walking from my car to the other side of campus makes my mask feels icky right away (the masks makes me breath through my mouth more). I’ve seen a few different recipes here there so you can “freshen up” your mask! And have been thinking about it all week.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- 2 ounce spray bottle (I recommend the amber-colored glass spray bottles)
- Witch Hazel
- Distilled or filtered water
- Essential Oils
You can use any size spray bottle you want- I like the size of the 2 ounce bottles because they fit perfectly in my purse or my backpack. Using Witch Hazel in your recipe helps the water and essential oils combine, helps the scent linger longer, and also it drys faster when spritz on cloth than water alone does.
- Filled my spray bottle half-way full with Witch Hazel
- I added 15 drops of essential oils: 5 drops Thieves, 5 drops Lemon, 5 drops Stress Away.
- After adding my oils, I filled the rest of the bottle full of water.
- Shake before use! I spritz my mask once or twice, depending on how “damp” it feels (ick!).
You can play around with how many drops and how many different oils you use. Add more drops if you prefer a stronger scent. I only spray the outside of my mask because I think the scent is too strong when I spray the inside, but it is up to you!
Because I will most likely use this spray only when I am on campus, I chose to use Thieves for its immune boosting/antimicrobial properties; lemon essential oil to help me focus, and Stress Away to help me calm my mind (class discussions and Covid-19 have me really anxious!).
I hope this recipe helps you! In the comment below, please let me know how you’ve been holding up during this this pandemic and if you like this recipe or not. If you have another recipe to share, please let us know! Thank you =]
