A midnight event told by a dog & cat

Around 1:30 AM we had a very interesting event happen in our home. By the way our 8-month-old pup was growling and barking, I thought someone had broken into our house. Turns out, one of our cats invited one his cat friends inside. This has never happened before. We were surprised that they came upstairs! Below is how we think our dog and cat would tell the story. Hahaha

EINSTEIN

Dear Dog Diary,

I am so proud of myself! I was laying on my travel pillow trying to fall asleep when I sensed a presence in the hallway. I started growling and barking, telling them to get out of our house. When I walked out into the hallway, I see Spencer and one of his friends. We never invite our friends inside! I don’t think we are even allowed to! So I kept telling them to go before they got in trouble. I was trying really hard to be big and intimidating, but I don’t think they took me that seriously, probably because of my travel pillow on my neck.

Dad and Mom came out of the room to see who I was talking to and I guess I was a little too excited because Dad locked me in the bedroom. I don’t know what happened after that, but my parents came back and told me that I was a really good boy! I love it when they call me that!

SPENCER

Dear Cat Diary,

It was a nice, sunny day today. With the exception of coming home to eat here and there, I had been outside most of the day, hanging out with friends and patrolling the neighborhood.

Sometime during the late afternoon, I ran into my dad and my brother, Einstein. They were going on their daily walk so I decided to tag along. My brother is cool. I didn’t like him at first because he barked a lot and always chased me around the house. He keeps growing and now he is bigger than me. One of his favorite games is to see if he can fit my whole head in his mouth. Mom doesn’t like it. She is always yelling at him to stop and sometimes I get in trouble too because she thinks I am in pain, but it is really just part of our game.

Einstein tries to play with our sister, Blair, but she doesn’t like him as much. She likes to spend most of her days sleeping on the couch. We don’t play or hangout together as much as we used to, but that’s okay because I have a few cat friends that I can hangout with. They sometimes come over and we sit in the yard or in our neighbor’s yard. Sometimes I go to their house.

“Tom”

Last night, I thought I would be cool and invite my friend inside (we will call this friend Tom). The house was quiet, so I figured Einstein was asleep. I knew Blair wasn’t sleeping, she was out patrolling the neighborhood. We came into the house from the back. our parents had installed a small door for us kids. I showed Tom around the kitchen and living room, and we decided to go up the stairs to show him the bedrooms.

We were walking down the hallway when all of a sudden we hear Einstein growling and barking. I have never heard him talk like this before! He comes out of our parents room wearing his donut (he had surgery last week). He was yelling at Tom to get out of the house. Tom and I got scared so we ran into the bathroom. All of a sudden, Dad comes out. He looks confused and sleepy. Turns out he couldn’t see because he didn’t have his glasses on. By the time Mom gives him his glasses, I had run into the laundry room and Tom was on the bathroom counter. Dad tried to catch Tom, but he escaped and ran into the office. He was going the wrong way! I was really scared, so I ran downstairs to hide behind the couch. Eventually Tom made it down the stairs and went out the small door. Mom told me it was okay for inviting a friend over but next time we need to tell them. I wonder what Tom will tell our friends. I hope they will still think I am cool.

Grilled Salmon Filets

I wanted something different than our usual chicken, beef and pork. My boyfriend isn’t really a fish fan (except for sushi), but he agreed to have salmon for dinner!

I talked to a few friends to see how they prepare their salmon and there are so many different ways! Some friends added vegetables in with the salmon, but I didn’t do that. Some of the same spices that came up in conversation were thyme, basil and garlic.

My boyfriend actually liked the way I made the salmon, so he has agreed to have it at least once a month lol!

This serves 2 people:

  • 1.5 pounds of salmon, cut in half to make two filets.
  • 1 lemon
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 teaspoons of minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoons of ground thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  1. Preheat grill to medium heat – we have a gas grill and set it to 450°F.
  2. Melt the butter and mix in the garlic, ground thyme, dried parsley.
  3. Slice the lemon into slices.
  4. Cut a piece of foil big enough to be able to wrap the salmon in.
  5. Place the salmon filets in the center.
  6. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the filets.
  7. Pour the melted butter mix all over the filets and place the lemon slices on top.
  8. Wrap the salmon and grill until it is done.

How do I know when my fish is done? Using a fork, gently twist the meat at the thickest point of the filet. If the fish is no longer translucent or raw looking and flakes, then it is time to eat! The internal temp for fish is between 140°F and 145°F.

I paired our salmon with rice and peas!

Staycation April 2021

The last couple of months, we have been waiting for our long weekend! Took us awhile to figure out what we wanted to do.. very limited right now because of Covid. We thought about going to Las Vegas, but decided to stay home instead.

THURSDAY, APRIL 1

We booked a 90-minute couples massage at Restful Touch Massage. It was at 10 AM so it was a nice way to start our long weekend! If you haven’t had a couples massage before, I recommend it! We never talk during our sessions, but it is still nice and relaxing.

After our wonderful massages, we hit up our favorite local brewery, Bridger Brewing, for pizza, salad and ginger beer. They have gigantic pizza slices and their Bridger Chop salad is my favorite!

We spent the rest of day cleaning, doing homework and getting ready for Friday.

FRIDAY, APRIL 2

Our plan for this day was to go to Yellowstone National Park. We didn’t wake up until 9 AM and we were feeling very tired so we were not sure if we wanted to go. Eventually we decided to go Sunday instead. Because we didn’t really plan on anything, we decided to go to brunch!

I’ve been wanting to go to Storm Castle Café for a very long time… I do not know why it took this long for me to go. My BFF in Texas told me that it was on Guy Fieri’s Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” so that made me want to go even more.

Everything on the menu sounded delicious, so we had a hard time deciding what to get. Our waitress told us about their Baria Breakfast Special so I decided to get that. My boyfriend ordered their biscuits and gravy – his usual order when he cannot decide, lol.

After brunch, we did errands, such as grocery shopping, returning a purchase, and scheduling foot massages for both of us! We stayed home the rest of the day.

SATURDAY, APRIL 3

We started the day by going to the bank and grabbing smoothies from Blended: Smoothie Bar & Protein Shakes! I absolutely love smoothies and so I have been wanting to go here for awhile. I ordered their Mango Berry Burst, which had mangoes, pineapple, strawberries, and 20g Vanilla Whey Protein. My boyfriend got the Berry, Berry Good smoothie – strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, banana, and 20g Vanilla Whey Protein. We really enjoyed the smoothies, and I plan on going back to try other flavors.

After we grabbed smoothies, it was back to the mall for our foot massages. We decided to get the 40-minute massage because it was only $5.00 more than the 30-minute massage. This was my first foot massage… and it was not relaxing. It was actually a bit painful, but it was the good kind of pain. He really worked out the bottom of my feet, so when we walked out, I felt like the emotional baggage I had been carrying around for awhile, had lifted. My boyfriend said that he felt lighter, as well! I recommend you try it at least once. We plan on going back!

After foot massages, we rushed home to do some light cleaning inside and the backyard. They aren’t kidding when they said that having a puppy is the same as having kids. His indoor toys were scattered all over the yard, lol. We setup the kiddie pool we bought the day before because it was a pretty warm day. He played in it for a few minutes.

Two of our close friends and their pup came over for lunch. We grilled burgers and I made onion rings for the first time! I wish I took a picture because they were perfect and tasted delicious! Of course, I plan on making them again once the weather starts warming up and we grill more! I spent the rest of the day being lazy.

SUNDAY, APRIL 4

We woke up around 6:30 AM to leave the house around 7:30 AM. I already had most of everything packed from our original plans. We brought our pup with us and it was his first long drive. We stopped a few times to let him out and also so he could calm down a bit. I think he got a little car sick.

This time of year, the Northeast Entrance is the only entrance that is open – it the Mammoth Hot Springs entrance. Usually when I go through Yellowstone, I always end up exiting through this entrance. So it was a little different for me.

When we entered, we stopped to give the pup a potty break and for me to get my camera gear together. A family approached us and their mom said that the whole family was excited to see a Corgi in the park, lol. They were more excited about our dog than they were about the nearby bison and antelope! They gave him some pets, which he always enjoys, and took a couple of pictures with him.

There is still some snow and the lakes were frozen, but the roads were clear. We drove through all the way to Cooke City to have lunch. Not too many places were open, which we expected, but we stopped at Soda Butte Lodge to have lunch in the Prospector Restaurant.

We were the only ones there, so it was pretty quiet. The place is very clean and the staff all wore masks. The staff was very friendly and one of the guys even came to talk to us about the weather and the view. We didn’t have cell service, but they offer guests free wifi.

Everything on their menu sounded very delicious and it was all decently priced. I had the Malibu Chicken sandwich (grilled chicken breast, topped with ham, pineapple and swiss cheese on a grilled bun) and my boyfriend had their Club sandwich (ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, swiss & American cheese on toasted white bread). The sandwiches came with a side of tater tots, and it was very filling!

I was very satisfied with this trip! We saw bison, antelope, deer, wolves (mama & baby), and a mama & baby moose! I was able to get a few photos, but unfortunately, not of the moose. They were two cars ahead and by the time I saw them, they were galloping behind some trees.

I found out from a Facebook group that this is the baby wolf.

We plan on visiting again next month! My boyfriend said that the bears should be awake and we should be able to see more babies. I hope to find my big lens so that I can zoom in more. I cannot wait!
