Thieves Automatic Dishwasher Powder Hack

We finally finished our dishwasher pods that we bought from Costco when we first moved into our home (10ish months ago). I have been waiting anxiously to use my Thieves Dishwasher Powder.

In some reviews, members were saying that when they used a full scoop of powder, it would leave spots on their dishes. So the best amount to use is 1/4 scoop.

I was in a team Zoom meeting and we were sharing different “hacks.” One member had told us how we can double our dishwasher powder. I also found this YouTube video from Kelsey Weeks.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup of salt (not pictured)

  • 1/2 cup of citric acid

  • 1 cup washing soda

  • 1 cup baking soda

  • A container to hold your powder – I washed the Kirkland brand box to reuse

  • Essential Oils (optional) – I chose lime and grapefruit

I added the essential oils last and used a spoon to mix it all together and to break up any clumps. Be careful not to inhale the powder while you’re mixing.

  1. Do you add this to your Thieves dishwashing powder? Do you just mix this up and use it in addition to the Thieves?
