1 AM Brain Dump

Ankle Update

Last week I had my first follow-up appointment with my podiatrist. They took x-rays and said everything looks great! I took a peek at the x-rays and the screws in my foot look like zip ties… that was interesting!

Like I said in my last post, this was my first major surgery, and it has been a decent recovery. My poor boyfriend has been managing everything… between taking care of me, keeping up with the house cleaning, yard work, laundry, walking the dog, and making dinner – I bet he cannot wait until I am back on my feet. He’s been sleeping downstairs on the other couch so that I am not “sleeping alone,” he’s so sweet, 🙂

I spend most of my days on the couch with an ice pack and elevate my foot. We have already gone through the latest seasons of Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy. We’ve also watched several movies, which were quite enjoyable. We watched You’ve Got Mail, which I hadn’t seen since I was a kid… and I did not realize (I was quite young then) that they were emotionally cheating on their partners. That was quite upsetting to me for like 1/3 of the movie, I finally got over it, haha. I looove crime shows and Netflix recently got rid of Criminal Minds (I binge watch it every year), so that’s a bummer. I watched Unbelievable (highly recommend), but if you have any suggestions (any genre), please let me know!

I sleep on the couch because getting up to our bedroom on the second floor when I can’t put weight on my foot really, really sucks! Showering sucks, too, blah. I get around the house in my computer chair – best tip I’ve ever gotten from a nurse, haha. We moved my computer and the printer downstairs, so the dining room is currently my office. I initially had rented a knee scooter the day of surgery, and didn’t get to it until a week later… I was 3-4 inches too short for it! Luckily when we returned it, they had a smaller scooter which is the perfect size (guessing it is for children). I haven’t used it yet… I tried to, and stupid me tried got on it when there wasn’t a clear path and I wasn’t wearing my boot. The scooter tipped over, I fell to the floor and hit my foot on something. Never doing that again. So now, I am trying to muster up the courage to get on it again because crutches really suck.

What has really been sticking in my mind during this recovery is that I fear that I am going to gain even more weight with not being able to move around as much. I have many different issues that is hindering my weight loss. It’s been like this the past few years. I saw my doctor last week, had an exam done, and we found something… so please cross your fingers that this is the reason for all my issues!

Kitty Update

the “baby” of the family

She is doing really well. She is back to her old self – being mischievous, climbing on tables and getting into my house plants. It is like she never lost a leg… I do see her struggle sometimes, and do wonder if her back leg gets tired. We have positioned chairs certain places so that she can get up with ease (like to her food dish).

Not sure if I have mentioned that we have a total of three black cats! We have been keeping them inside for the last couple of months because of kitty losing her leg, plus our cats are being naughty. So for now, we are all suffering. Our boy cat yowls all the freakin’ time – every hour, especially at night. He is so loud, you’d think he was dying. We recently bought one of those cat e-collars (it only beeps and vibrates), and we have used it a couple of times at night. I fall asleep with the remote tied to my hand, so when he wakes me up I beep him – it seems to help.

the golden child – she never “gets in trouble.”

I often think about Dug from the movie UP. I wish we had the technology to make collars that can translate pet language to English and vice versa, haha.

Corgi butt! He’s so funny.

It is amazing how animals can sense things. Often times we catch our pup looking “concerned” when it comes to my foot. He is gentle and often times follows me around when I’m wheeling around the house. When I’m feeling some foot pain, I notice he comes and leans against me, 🙂

Summer Class

Class started on June 27th, and I was absolutely not mentally prepared for it, and I hadn’t bought my books for it either. I just bought them tonight, all on Kindle. It is a 6-week class, so this is going to be rough. This class is a freshman seminar, so it is required even though I transferred to this university and I’m in my senior year. It’s ridiculous (that I need to take it) and I am nervous about it because I absolutely am terrified of presentations.

For this class, we will be reading (in this order):

  1. Plato, Euthyphro, Apology, Crito. Translated by F.J. Church
  2. Martin Luther King, Jr., Letter from Birmingham Jail
  3. R. Grant, Ethics of Talk
  4. E. Kolbert, Under a White Sky: The Nature of the Future
  5. T. Orange, There, There
  6. B. Hare & V. Woods. Survival of the Friendliest: Understanding our Origins and Recovering
  7. C. N. Adichie, Dear Ijawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions

If you’ve read any of them, please let me know what you think! I haven’t had a chance to look up the book to see what it is about, but from the titles alone, I have an idea.

Independence Day

We, or I should say he, had a 3-day weekend because of July 4th. With very short notice, my parents decided to come visit us (Saturday/Sunday) and it was really nice having them here! The first night, we went out to sushi for dinner, then the next day my mom made some very delicious (Filipino) food so that my boyfriend could get a break from cooking. They helped with some yard work and then we had a BBQ. They left Monday morning, 😦

We usually are not that big into holidays (we usually just celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years). With the recent current events, we haven’t really been in the mood in celebrating anything. I am not one to really talk politics, but sometimes I just cannot help myself. I had to log out of Facebook because my news feed was too overwhelming and gave me anxiety for the future.

New Job(s)!

Recently, my boyfriend’s mom has ‘hired” us to help her manage her rental properties. We’ve helped her here and there over the years, but have done a lot more this time than we ever have. This has been quite the experience… but also fun!

Because I go to school full-time, I work when I can, which is rarely. I work at a hospital and also have my photography business. I recently accepted a position as a rental vacation home photographer! I am pretty excited to start, which will be in a few weeks when I can start putting weight on my foot. I’m contracted by them, so my schedule is pretty flexible!

Well, it has been nearly an hour since I started this post, with a few breaks to let the dog out and telling the cat to be quiet. I should probably head to bed so I am not spending my day sleeping.

Good night!
